DJI, GoPro & Beyond: Not everyone can afford, but there is Rental!

There was a time where photography gadgets were out of reach for the masses. When the Digital era emerged, camera industry filled the market with hundreds of new camera models year after year & increased the competition in market. Vintage companies like Fuji and Pentax had a great come back with their new digital models. There is always Nikon, Canon and Sony in market with beginner to professional camera with various price ranges. Finally new technologies made it possible for the masses to afford cameras and lenses that matches their interest levels and skills.

A decade after this happened came the action camera era, GoPro made it possible for everyone to afford it with their wide range of products, each year a new model cam is released, it entered the market competing against its own camera with price, advancement in features and so on. It’s unfortunate that it failed in the aerial photography debut with Karma.

However this made many of us notice the aerial photography industry DJI, which is hot in market since more than a decade, though initial years it was known only for film industry as the products were new and meant for the industry, recent years and their products from Phantom is the hotcake for photography enthusiasts and the professionals. Leading the market, setting high benchmarks with amazing features and the quality, DJI proved to be the Leader in this industry.

Starting from Phantom, Inspire & Mavic series (from 2018) are the hotcakes, with Spark, Air and now the brand new Mini are the toys grown ups want to play with. Yet, there is a slight hiccup with the price if you want to try it all and choose the best for your best needs or even if it’s a temporary use for a month or two, price is not super friendly for Mavic 2 pro or few of them. And the brand new debut in action cam, DJI Action being in market everyone want to get a hands on and try it out.

Not everyone can afford it right away and cannot wait for a year for a new model launch that reduces the current model price, so here is a new way to afford it like your own. Rental is a great option if you want to get a hands on or have a need for a week or a month or for a season. There are few to several rental providers in market that rents out the latest Drones, Action Cameras (GoPro & DJI), Nintendo Switch, VR (Oculus) and so on.

It’s important to choose a provider wisely that you get a great a best value for the money you pay. As a freelance photographer & photography enthusiast I had a long time desire to buy a drone for me, though I almost had bought a Spark last year but the color choice made me leave Best Buy! (Why does DJI prioritize Alphine white over other real colors!! You freak!!)

In any case I didn’t want to miss capturing this Fall 2019 using a drone and I didn’t want to buy a drone in hurry and spend almost a thousand bucks just for few days, so I thought to rent a drone and started a google search that ended up with an ample of results, I spent a quality time doing my research and finding best value for money and so on, I then decided to rent my first drone from Crisp, the process was simple, delivery was amazingly fast, package came with quick tips to use the drone, full charged batteries. Before and after placing my order Bryon responded to my queries promptly with patience.

And then there is the luck that plays every time with me like its a childhood friend of mine! Sigh! It was raining heavily the whole week when I had the drone with me but luckily not during the two days during my visit to New Hampshire and Vermont. I was able to make nice memories with it during the time I used it and some post memories as well (Only my wife, my friend & Crispthat team knows that! 😉 )

Low light Photography

It’s my first article about photography & I’m starting it with Low light Photography.

Light plays an important role in Photo, be it day light, or night photography, light is the main source and it can define your photo the way you want to convey it.

My interest for photography goes back to the time when I have never touched a camera & we never had one at home. My dad use to express his interest on how we could have shot a photo if we had a camera on that spot, as a child I have grown up cultivating that interest in me. I bought a first digital point & shoot camera in 2010 for my dad & started taking so many photos whenever we went out.

Four years before I bought this Digi cam, the first time I ever got my hands on to a digital camera was when my friend Praveen got his cousin Anand anna’s camera. He gave me the first tips to shoot a photo without leaving space about head & to avoid unnecessary blank space on a photo. After my dad he is my first mentor for photography.

I called it “Yin-Yang: The actual meaning is different here

I shot this 8 years back with a point & shoot camera, I held this “Spadiga Maalai” in one hand and shot with other hand. As it was a cloudy day our home was more dark when i shot this pic.

This is 15th photo in my Flickr account. My friend Vikky’s photo is the first photo that I’ve uploaded to my Flickr account.

I got my first DSLR camera two years back & exploring various categories from Landscapes to Portraits. Though I love all the categories, shooting in low light or at night interests me more. Let’s talk about it now.

Low light photography needs an important quality – Patience. If you have patience & dedicated time to take the shot you have in mind, you can certainly produce good quality photos. You don’t need more fancy accessories to shoot photos, just keep a clear idea of what you’re going to shoot & find a spot for your photo.

I’m not going to explain every details like a pro, I’ll talk about it to the level I’ve exposure about it. You need a camera with manual setup, based on how much light is available in the spot you choose, you will have to manually adjust your aperture and shutter speed. One thing to keep in mind is that you will have to keep your camera absolutely still. You cannot let it move a bit. You will end up with a blurred photo without any details. So, find your angle & keep your camera on floor or compound or if you have tripod you can keep it anywhere you can.

You don’t a remote for all your shots, you can use timer but remember even the click that you press in your camera will shake your photo & will end up as an useless shot.

Here are some low light photos that I shot.

Below shot is a form of light trails, my wife posed 30 seconds without moving for this photo. Keep in mind, when your subject moves or your camera moves you will end up in a blurred image.
