Travelogue, Nostalgic memories and more…

Manhattanhenge, New York’s Stonehenge

I have seen photos of Manhattanhange (without knowing the name then!) several years ago. I was not aware of such event until last year when I discovered something like this happens twice a year. One in May & another during July. The dates are May 29 & July 12, also a day before the above dates as well.

When I was reading newspaper last year (2015) I saw the Sunset photo and the news referred it as Manhattanhenge, I then googled about it & got to know I’d just missed it by two days or so. The disappointment level will be very high when you realize you could have witnessed something that happens in the very street you walk every single day & it’s historic which happens just twice a year.

Immediately I checked the dates for 2016  Manhattanhenge, it was May 28, 29 & July 11, 12. After a year, on May 29th I’d visited New York to see this, unfortunately everyone was disappointed as it was cloudy! The crowd waited until the sunset but it happened behind the clouds! May be the sun was shy to look everyone as hundreds of people were looking at it at the same time after an year!

The last time of the year to witness this came! I totally forgot about it on 11th, on 12th I remembered it after I boarded bus to New Jersey! I couldn’t stop bus as they won’t stop it once it’s started from departure until the first stop arrives. I waited until the first stop & crossed the road & waited for the next bus to New York.

Arrived at Times Square at 7:50, the streets were already crowded. Both sides of road were crowded and none crossed the road for the walk sign! Some taxi’s lowered the window and asked what are people looking at? Some people got down from Taxis after knowing about it. Cops were on the fly & ensured people are not blocking the traffic, as center of the road is best spot to see.

Everyday there is sunrise and sunset, but how many days are we looking at it? When was the last time you saw the sunrise & sunset by standing in a position just to look at it? But there is a point here, it’s not just a sunset, it’s a sunset that aligns in center of the street. Just like the Stonehenge in England which was constructed somewhere around 3000 BC to 2000 BC.

At 8:10, like the curtain opens before play, Sun came out with glittering rays from behind the building it was hiding. It was so beautiful to see the Golden sun surrounded with reddish ring and orange and golden glittering rays! At this evening, Nature was the celebrity! People shouted out of happiness and I kept smiling 🙂 It was the moment everyone was so happy and some even clapped for the nature 🙂 I asked someone to take a picture of me instead of just taking a selfie, what’s the use of having hundreds of people when we don’t talk to them.

People kept looking at the spot for a while even after the sun was set. More than hundreds including may not get another chance to see it next year or in future! Next time when you’re in New York City around May or July, do not miss this! It’s for this 10 minutes I waited an year!

V-Day with Asus Zenfone

Every year the month February brings in lot of happiness for many and sadness for some people. We always think Valentine’s Day is only when we have a boy/girl friend to go cherish the day. But It’s not just about having boy/girl friend. It’s lot more than that.

There is nothing to be saddened if one doesn’t have a Valentine on V-day; The love in Dad’s strictness when we reach home – ‘Why are you late? Be careful when you’re out at late hours’ & The affection Mother shows after you enter house – ‘Did you had proper food outside or not? I know you would have had some junk food, Wash your hands and plate, let me serve you food’ & the caring words from sister consoling you by saying that ‘mom and dad does everything for your own good so listen to their advice’, More over the love & affection from the best friend who stands with us all time… Until one have these caring people with them, one need not worry about Valentine’s Day.

When it comes to me, My Valentine is special…

She is slim, sleek, colorful, I can feel what others can’t feel, I can see what others can’t see, I can do what others can’t do! Hey!!! Wait… Wait…

The Power of Voice

When I was scrolling down in my Facebook wall last week, I came across a post by some person who had elaborated about an issue that he had faced recently. He had written a four paragraph description about the problem he had faced with the car service center and about his experience with the customer support response he got.

People now a days are very sure about one thing, if they face any issue/problem they take it to Facebook instead of the proper authorities. It is of course going to being an awareness among others, but what about the solution to the problem? When you take your problem to Facebook, it will for sure reach thousands of people, but will it get you the result or the solution you are expecting?

How will a problem get a solution when it is not taken up to the concerned authorities? How will authorities know about an issue without we speak up? Authorities are ready to listen, but we need to speak. We should get ready to speak up for ourselves. Only when we speak for ourselves, we can get ready to speak for others. Your problem will not longer be your problem when you speak up. There are many others who are keeping silent and expecting a start.

When someone raises a complaint against a customer support, others who are affected but are keeping quiet will get a feeling that there are some others like them who are facing the same issue and they will come forward with their concerns and so on and on… At the end all of them who had faced the issue would have come out speaking for themselves.

As I’d mentioned above, When I was scrolling down in my Facebook wall last week, I came across a post by some person who had elaborated about an issue. After seeing the images and his comments on his post, I’d contacted Bangalore city Commissioner through his Facebook page, As I’d read about City Commissioner and about his activeness on his Facebook page, I’d tried to keep him informed about the complaint which was elaborated by this person, I got response within few hours on the same day. Of course, the article was true that I’d read about city commissioner.

This response assured one thing, authorities are ready to listen to us, it’s with us to speak for ourselves & speak for others. It wont work anymore by keeping your silence. Kyuki Bin Bole Ab Nahi Chalega

Evil Smell taken down by Holy Water!

Once upon a time in India, Trilok Nath a King lived with great pride. All his men loved him so much for his brave and courage and Witty character. He lived a great life with his wife. His state was very wealthy and people lived a happy life.

On a fine summer morning his wife gave birth to baby boy. The baby was very beautiful. Since the baby was born, he had not cried nor smiled. The palace doctor Vig Dijay Nath was very surprised to see this and told the king your son is going to be very strong in administering our state and wished the Queen and left the palace with many prizes that the king had offered him.

Four years passed by…

On a hot sunny day, the little prince went to a water falls near palace with his little friends. While enjoying the bath the little prince felt some irritation at his back and could’t continue to bath anymore and went back home. The palace doctor Vig Dijay Nath rushed to palace as per the King’s order to check his little son. After examining the little prince, the doctor said these are sore that was caused by the force of the water and gave some green grass to squeeze and put it at his back daily until it is cured.

The palace doctor said to King, there is one important thing that I should say. I’m scared you might punish me if I say so. ‘Hahaha’ laughed the King Trilok nath! Don’t worry Vig Dijay… I’ll not punish you. I respect my country men and doctors he said. With little hesitation the doctor said until this sore is cured, the prince should not bath. I’m not sure how many days it’ll take to recover. The king put his hand on doctor’s shoulder and laughed again. Shouted ‘Who is there’ few palace guards rushed in… asked them to take this doctor to Nalanda University to identify a cure that will immediately his son.

Conversation between King & Prince

Conversation between King & Prince

Days passed by, it’s been few weeks since the little prince bathed. His friends hesitated to come near him. The little prince went to his parents and cried for first time and said my friends are not coming near me as I haven’t bathed. Please do something so that they will play with me. The king thought for a while and passed an order to his people. The order was ‘No one in the town should bath until further notice’. Message was read out through public relation workers in all streets in town.

The king also said I’ve a spy in every house they are so loyal to me & I’ll get to know if anyone takes bath. He also deployed some guards near the water falls so that no one can bath. The town started to smell bad! As the little prince was getting recovered, people who couldn’t bare the smell called it an ‘Evil Smell’ meanwhile the King, to avoid any embarrassment among his people named his town as ‘Ganjirali’ (Meaning, Town with pleasant smell)

The turning point!

Worried by their bad smell, Rameshawardan,  Sureshawardan the twin brothers who were friends of prince and sons of the palace gardener, decided to bath. They thought how to bath without making water sound so that no one can hear them bathing. An idea hit his mind when Rameshawardan was chewing some sweet! He rushed to his store room and picked one of the water pots and went to the falls to fill water, guards thought they are taking water to garden. As kids the twin brother took bath together through the water pot which didn’t make any sound. They felt very happy!

King came to know about this boys who took bath! Ordered his men to bring the kids. The brave kids said to the King that it’s a holy water and demonstrated how they took bath without making water sound. Kids said to King we pour water in this and plants grow with fresh leaves, if we take bath using this daily we will get shiny skin. The prince took the water pots and rushed to bath! As he took bath after so many days, he liked the smooth flow of water to his back which didn’t cause pain to his sore, he liked this invention by his friends very much. He thought if he take shower using this daily, his sore will be cured quickly.

Moved by this invention the little prince got some gold coins from his father and gave it to his friends to celebrate! Then he told his gather to send a notice to town saying ‘Buy Water pots, call it as Water Shower… Take bath twice a day! Let the Holy water take down the Evil Smell’..! As the little prince goes on dictating the public notice to PRO, The King saw that proudly and reminded the words of his palace doctor and asked the guards to bring the doctor back from Nalanda.

People started to use the water pots, some heated the water pots for a hot water shower & everyone lived happily! :)

Shorts, Coolers & Floaters

“The traveler sees what he sees. The tourist sees what he has come to see.”
― G.K. Chesterton

With all my curiosity, along with my 6 friends; I would want to make a successful trip to Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

As soon as the destination was decided, we first logged in to our cheap & best travel partner site Skyscanner & looked for the best deals. We then booked a our flight tickets at a best price.

Being a software professionals from different locations we wanted this trip to be a best memorable and fine get together for us.

As this is our first trip to a place which is outside India Map but within Indian Territory (Did I made my point here :) ) we all are little excited!

Now the challenge is to decide the places we need to visit there and book the necessary things in advance.

To make this happen, we have to communicate on daily/regular basis! As we’re at different locations and working in different shifts, connecting through call or through email would be little crucial.

One of my friends at this point had created a group in Whatsapp and that was a very good idea! With smartphones in everyone this was a smart idea as anyone at anytime can have access to our own mobile!

Applying what he had learnt at corporate, Mohan assigned a task to everyone to keep them engaged in our Whatsapp group and now everyone had a task to to.

Upon deciding the places to visit, each one of us took a task varying from booking ferry, room, diving & snorkeling & cabs started following up with the respective places at Andaman through phone and emails & got everything done a week before our travel.

As we saved money since a few months before our travel  each were able transfer money to others who were handling  their booking tasks. Almost every bookings are complete .

Our checklist had Playing cards, Frisbee too along with Dettol & other necessary items.

Now a three days to our flight, One of my friends almost fainted when his group chat popped up our final checklist message that was not part of his budget earlier… When we haven’t bought these things already, the message read “Hope you all have already bought Swim Shorts, Coolers & Floaters” :)
